Those of us who have savoured junk food sometimes get a craving for it. But just because you get that craving doesn't always mean you have to satisfy it. Or does it?

So I am not a nutritionist and I do tend refer to doctors and scientists as the experts when it comes to determining the healthiness of food. But when I get a craving, I don't immediate think is that good or bad for me. One thing I do before I act on the craving is to take into consideration what's happening or happened to me in the moment for that craving to pop's up. It's always easy for me to grab a bit of dark chocolate to make me feel better as I always have chocolate in the fridge. I was going to say for emergencies, but truthfully there is never an emergency to always have access to chocolate. It's a necessity!

But should I really act on my craving? Well according to psychologist Eva Kemps from Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia, she says yes! "Kemp says it’s best if most of us satisfy our cravings. "It's actually better to let yourself have it," she adds. "The stronger the craving's going to become, then you're going to be fixated on it (May 2015)."

Ok I'm in agreement then. Yes to having a burger! Ok this was not really a last minute craving but rather part of planning what to cook as of last weekend. Five Guys is too far from home and it's easy enough for me to make a burger at home.

Ok my burger patty is made from 15% fat mince beef. Simply seasoned with dried mixed herbs and salt and pepper. I account for the fact the burger bun which has been toasted, has ketchup at the bottom. Then freshly sliced tomato sliced, with lightly pickled red onion as the next layer before adding the hot beef patty. The next layer of course is the cheese. I used sliced emmental cheese. Now I could of been fancy and placed it on the patty whilst it was cooking in the frying pan. But I decided not to do so as I cooked the patty "bleu". So rather than risk overcooking I chose to leave the cheese un-melted. Next is the lettuce, cut up in small rectangular pieces for ease as I used small lettuces for this part. Then to finish off, spread some mayonnaise on the top part of the bun to finish of my simple home made burger. So satisfying and was as much pleasure to make as it was to eat which was more messy.

What to do when you have a craving? "It's actually better to let yourself have it"
